Doris I. Powers, 85, passed away December 10, 2014 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. The daughter of Forrest and Janelle Lovett, she was born October 7, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri. Her primary focus in life was raising and caring for her family, but, her life treasures were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A devout member of South Hutchinson Christian Church, she was also involved in TOPS, loved sports of any kind, and, was a phenomenal seamstress. After her children had grown she used her creative seamstress talent to make clothes for Wiley’s Department Store. On February 8, 1947 she married the love of her life, Gilbert R. Powers in Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death June 15, 2007. Survivors include 1 son, Gilbert R. “Junior” Powers; 1 daughter De De DeVault (Garry); 1 sister, Delores Carey; 2 half brothers, Forrest “Corky” Lovett, Clyde Lovett; a half sister, Glenna; 3 grandchildren, Scott DeVault, Monty Powers, Steven Powers; 4 great grandchildren, Brandon Powers, Madison DeVault, Taylor Powers, Peyton Powers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step father, Lewis Miller, stepmother, Frankie Lovett, half brothers Johnny Moberly and Harry Lee Lovett, and, a daughter in law, Stella Powers. Public visitation will be Monday, December 15, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 at Old Mission – Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. Celebration of life will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at South Hutchinson Christian Church, 111 E. First, South Hutchinson, Kansas with Pastor Jeff Arnold presiding. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial fund to South Hutchinson Christian Church, or, Kansas Diabetes Association. Gifts may be left in care of the funeral home. Old Mission – Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of service arrangements.
