Leona Skinner

Leona Jane Skinner, 87, passed away Easter morning, April 5, 2015 at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, Kansas. The daughter of George and Clara Bishop, she was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, October 19, 1927. As a member of Bethany Nazarene Church and New Life Church, she loved crocheting clothes and making toy monkeys for the children that she cared for in the church nursery. She loved to travel, read, play cards play bingo and collect dolls. Caring and providing for her family was her main love in life and as an excellent cook she always made sure they had plenty to eat. On October 19, 1943 she married Homer Skinner in Hutchinson, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 5, 2008. Survivors include 1 son, Daniel Skinner (Barbara) of Akron, Ohio; 1 daughter, Anita Friesen (Richard) of Hutchinson, Kansas; 1 brother, Ernest Bishop of Inman, Kansas; 6 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, David, 2 brothers, Verl, and Dewey Bishop, 1 sister, Lorraine McCurdy. A gathering for friends and family will be Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, at Old Mission – Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. A celebration of life will take place Friday, April 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, Kansas. Old Mission – Heritage Funeral Home, Hutchinson, Kansas is in charge of service arrangements.
